539 Dutch digital screens at the end of 2011 Print E-mail

Digital cinema really took off in The Netherlands last year. At the end of 2011 there were 539 DCI compliant digital cinema screens in the country, 346 of which were capable of showing 3D movies. The number of D-cinema screens is now roughly double the number of digital screens at the end of 2010 and all seems set for total digitization halfway 2012.  Read more >>

By now most cinemas have committed to a financing scheme for their switch to digital cinema. In The Netherlands market leader Pathé has its own VPF deals with the Hollywood studios, Utopolis and Euroscoop go digital with integrator Ymagis and the rest all signed with the national digitization plan Cinema Digitaal. Did everybody sign? No, some cinemas chose to pay for the digitization themselves. First Dutch arthouses sign with Cinema Digitaal Print E-mail

Dutch arthouses 't Hoogt (Utrecht) and Het Ketelhuis (Amsterdam) last week were the first Dutch arthouses to sign a contract with national D-cinema plan Cinema Digitaal. This marked the start of the second phase of the Cinema Digitaal roll-out. Arthouses Lux (Nijmegen) and Lantaren/Venster (Rotterdam) are expected to sign this week, so the first arthouses can be digitally equipped early next year.  Read more >>


 
MACCS International and XDC launch DCinema Hub Print E-mail

MACCS International, a software company for the international movie distribution market, and pan-European digital cinema services company XDC have announced to have created "DCinema Hub". This new joint-venture company provides a global order and delivery platform for digital movies that will span the entire cinema industry from distributor to exhibitor, including labs and delivery companies.  Read more >>

Cinema Digitaal not without growing pains Print E-mail

The Dutch national digital cinema project Cinema Digitaal is in the middle of its roll out. The first projectors have been installed but the contract is still being tweaked, to make it as favourable for the participants as possible. Until now more than 175 screens have signed up to Cinema Digitaal, but not all Dutch cinemas are joining in. Read more >>
